A lawsuit for what? Being fired in email? It's tacky as hell, but definitely not against the law. The only thing you or they should be concerned with is your final check. You're still on the clock until they give it to you.

I am unsure of the company that you were fired from. But I am positive that you have a coward for a supervisor. They should have had the decency to relay that information to you face to face. But there is no room for a lawsuit because you were notified and you received the notification. Many companies are going into the concept of a ‘paperless office’. This means that they do as little paper work as necessary. They could have terminated your employment over the telephone or via email. But if you feel that what you were fired for is not justifiable then by all means get a GOOD ATTORNEY.

No, not on the basis that it was sent by e-mail alone. If you were unable to be reached by any other means this may have been the only way your employer could have communicated with you effectively.

It seems like poor way to get fired but in and of itself is not lawsuit worthy.

It's not as bad as the woman who was fired via text message but you may have something. I can't think of anything off of the top of my head, check around about employee's rights and review the contract of employment that you first signed to officiate your employment to the company to see if you have anything in a lawsuit.

But then again I know this guy who was dumped via IM by his GF's friend. THAT was bad.

Not enough information to give you an answer. Like why were you fired? Who fired you? Why an e-mail? Too many variables to answer this one.

Print off that e-mail your boss gave you. Make sure you write down the name of your colleagues and then you have to e-mail your boss back as a warning. Keep using e-mail, it's fast, it's cheap, it's paper free. Take advantage of e-mail. Use your friend's computer. It's free.

Talk with a laywer. Public forums are not where this questions ought to be answered. Most, of not all, laywers will answer this question right over the phone, no charge to you.
