it's not all rich people but I'll give u some examples---
i once worked retail in a high income district, selling clothing.
the more affluent customers with unlimited income would haggle over price tags, and they would even purchase expensive gowns or suits, wear them to whatever event, then bring them back for a refund.
now most stores policy is not to give a refund for an item that has clearly been worn, no matter how much it cost. they will give a store credit or exchange.
but the richer customers would fuss and fuss, causing scenes, and they would get their refund.
i just think that was plain tacky and low-class bringing back a stinky funky dress when u have enough money from the high class income, to just give it away if u no longer want it, cuz u know the rich can't be seen in the same outfit twice, lol.
and they didn't even get it dry-cleaned!!!
i worked at another store where the neighborhood was middle class, and people there did not bring back worn, smelly clothes.
if they came back for a refund, usually it was something that deserved a refund, doesn't fit, was a gift, something broke, etc.
in restaurants, i had a friend who was a waitress tell me that the richer customers are the worst tippers, so go figure!!

A good way to get rich if you don't make a lot of money is to be 'cheap.' I don't know about the rest of the country, but where I live you can shop at Aldi which has non brand name foods instead of Hen House which is about 5-10 times the price. You can buy used items, shop only with coupons/sales. A friend of the family makes a lot of money, but she is incredibly cheap. She does whatever she can to save on gas, food, etc. and she teaches her children to be the same. So while many rich people waste away their money, I think that tends to be the famous people, who have 'new' money. Wealthy people who earned their fortune over a long time or after hard work generally are not this way.

I would never say any one group is Always a certain way. Some rich people are very frugal...that's what helps keep them rich. Some rich people like to spend and show of what they have. Some rich people give to charities, family, causes. Some don't.
But then again, some poor people are very giving, spend a lot. It all depends on the person. As long as your happy with your life what does it matter (it shouldn't) as long as you are not hurting anyone else.

Of course they are not always the cheapest but they do have a reputation of being cheap. I have 5 aunts and one of them married into money. They were the cheapest of all the aunts making their children from the age of 11 make their own money to buy their own clothing. Of course they are not cheap on all things, when their children grew into adults they started giving them lots of money each year as a tax write off. Maybe that is cheap too as that way they owe less taxes to the government. When I waitressed many of the rich patrons would expect special service thinking it was owed to them. Sometimes they would tip accordingly and sometimes not. Being economical sometimes helps a person just above average monetarily wise helps them achieve enough wealth to make them rich.

you'll have to ask the explanation from someone who actually IS rich. But I have heard from rich people (on tv) that they are cheap. Just think about it for a minute, if you stopped tipping people you'd have that extra money to spend or invest. And, at some point in peoples lives they think more of money than anything else in their world, and especially men in that men can live a lot cheaper than women. Once they see the savings grow they realize that things get more expensive all the time, and the only way for them to gain is to invest.

I don't necessarily think that rich people are cheap, it's more that when you have nothing you kinda don't care if you get further in debt. And you are more likely to treat yourself because you feel like you already have nothing.

rich people can be cheap. poor people can be cheap. i dont think it really matters how much money you have but sometimes having a lot of money blocks out more important things.

Sometimes. I know several people that are extremely well off and also the most generous people also. on the other hand I know some well off people that are so stinking cheap and tight they squeak, and are extremely condescending too.

That depends.
Rich people who inherited their wealth tend to be cheap and heartless. Those who earned their wealth tend to have a lot more compassion and are a lot more generous with tips and charitable donations.

No, people's cheapness (is that a word?) depends on how much the person loves and values money.
