It depends on where your coming from in the South. Vegas can be high in a few areas gas, groceries and car registration to name a few. BUT you will get a higher salary no doubt so that helps. Also we do not pay any state taxes so that is more you get from your paycheck each month. Housing has gotten too expensive in the last 5 years but I think the rental market is prime right now and reasonable.
As for the comment about grass I am guessing that guy has never lived here because my yard is full of green grass and the many parks around my house are, yes we have water restrictions but there is plenty of green!
I would not take advise from someone that just visits here because living here is totally diff than staying on one part of town (the strip) for a week.

Yes,it's very expensive when compared to the south, Although living in the south can be expensive as well. I moved from NY to TN and can't believe the cost of food and taxes is higher than NY!

My husband's college roommate just transferred from Houston, TX to Las Vegas. The last time he visited us, he told us that our 3000 square foot home would sell for over $1 million in Vegas, while it originally cost us less than $200K here 10 years ago!

No green yards just desert all around water is in short supply. Just about everything is geared to entrainment and gambling. It keeps taxes low property is expensive and neighborhoods change over very fast. Yes it should cost more. If you are in the service industry there are unions. Wages should be good. If your into starting your own business try some where else! Unless you have a IN to the politics and can pay payola to the authorities,

Just remember that cost of living is all relative. You will probably get paid more living in Vegas than you will in the south. I get paid more in TX than in MS.
