looking for a book from mid-80's. about kids in a gold mine with snakes and the caves filling with water.?

here's what i remember. 2 kids and an old woman go looking in a cave for something, dont remember what. the caves filling with water and they use old mine carts to float out, past all the snakes filling the cave.
i doubt anyone knows what im talking about but its worth a try.

I don't know the book, but have you tried asking Amazon.com? I found a book I was looking for by putting in some key words. It's kidslit, I assume, so that's a beginning. Good luck.
