It basically means that there is a pump that is sucking up the water from under the house. It will stop you from getting water in your basement. A good thing to have.

I know you know what a pump is. The sump part is a depression in the floor or bottom of a vessel where water can drain to and collect. Now sit the pump in the sump.....Hence, sump pump; works every time, unless the electricity is out.

Some houses have ground water under them, so a pump placed in a hole in the basement is needed to keep the ground water at bay. I would inquire to the specific reason in writing as to why the sump pump has been added before proceeding.

The basement sometimes gets flooded. The only way to get the water out (unless you want to use buckets) is to use a pump to take the water from a reservoir (called the sump)just under the basement floor and push it outside through pipes.

There was drain tile installed in the basement that drain into a pit in the basement floor. The "Sump Pump" is installed in the pit to remove "Hydrostatic" water pressure under the basement, which helps keep the basement dry. This is a GOOD THING.

Sometimes basements flood so you need to check your property disclosure to see if the property has flooded before. If the previous owners have a sump pump (designed to help remove water from basements and underneath homes) it's a good indication that it has flooded before.

holly crap, im the man that you want to talk to.

a sump pump is sumbmersible with a filter inlet located in the bottom of the unit.
it is activated by a float valve or can also be activated munually.
so incase ur basement starts to flood when you're not home. I suggest that you keep that pump where it is.
it gets all the crap out that you dont want to touch and help keep your house clean.

A sump pump pumps waste water or any undesirable water for that matter. A sump pump is usually associated with sewer or septic tanks.

a sump pump is a submursubal pump that has it's own built in float that cuts it on and off as water seeps in to where ever you install it: usualy a basement that collects water out of the ground. it runs off 120volts [ standerd electrical plug] it depends on the amount of water as to the size mostly a 1inch outlet will do
