the USB device is not one that is externally powered

Thanks everyone for the answers so far. Do you think USB speakers would drain the battery faster than the internal speakers (though that would probably depend on the wattage)

Any USB powered device drains the battery....

So, for sure, the speakers should use a lot, prefer a headset !

Mouses, a laser/optic mouse use more power than a ball one, but it's easier to use an optic one on the road... basically it doesn't drain a lot of energy....unless your'using a wireless one.

Everything wireless drains much more power.

If you check carefully all the documentation, you'll find out how much power any device should drain...

Good luck

Depends on the USB device in question, the laptop and how it's being used. So I can't really give you a "you'll get 15 minutes less" type of answer.

A USB mouse has a much smaller power drain than a bus-powered USB hard drive, for example. USB speakers would likely be in the middle.

Good rule: Plug your laptop in whenever you can, especially when you have external devices connected.

usb mice generally put little drain on battery but altough i have not ever used usb speakers i would suspect that they would drain battery at a considerably higher rate.

Mice, very low
Speakers - depends on power of speakers
PCMCIA wireless cards - lots!!

Your largest drain is the LCD & CDROM.
