I'm having a really hard time getting the clutch to pull in and out on my bike. It's actually an ATV, but the answer will apply to all motorcycles with a manual clutch.

What would be some internal issues that would cause the clutch to be hard to pull in? I've bought new cables and levers and nothing helps.

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. Every bike and quad have a different clutch lifter mechanism. Could be anything from a bent push rod to worn splines on the clutch basket or damaged clutch cover inhibiting the lifter to operate properly.
To check that the clutch lever isn't at fault -
-Remove the lever from the pearch.
-Leave the cable attached.
-Pull in the lever using the pearch to pry against.
To check if something at the motor is the problem and not the cable -
-Depending on how the cable attaches to the motor, try to activate the clutch lifter with a pair of pliars or crescent wrench.

Improper adjustment. Check the manual. You usually can adjust where the cable enters the housing. Make two or three turns then ride your ATV a few feet. You will feel the difference.
DON'T rush. You might also have an adjustment on the handle bar.
If all else fails, drink a beer and try again tomorrow.

We switched to an MSR clutch handle which is designed to be easier to pull, and use clutch cable lube, which causes less friction in the cable itself. Hope this helped.

The problem could be as simple as your clutch cable needs lubricating. They have a special tool that attaches to the top of the cable's sheath and forces oil into it. It's cheap & easy solution & definately worth a shot.

i just put a new clutch in my 75 sportster and had a little difficulty upon reassembly. when you pull the clutch there's that knob that pushes out disengaging the clutch. on mine that knob deal had a bearing fall out making the clutch lever real stiff. once i realized the problem it was real easy to fix. hope that helps you with your problem.
