I also find that when a cop tries to 'talk' to you, some don't accept no for an answer.

Being a cop is an extremely high stress job. You have to deal with criminals every day. Each time you pull someone to the side of the road or enter a residence, you don't know what's going to happen. The person in the car or house could just pull out a gun and shoot you right there.
Because the job is so intense, it's not surprising that some cops would take out this stress on their spouses. Also, there is a power trip that comes from wearing a uniform. Cops expect to be respected and obeyed. It's part of their job. It must be hard to turn that off when the uniform comes off.
Just my thoughts.

Law enforcement is a stressful job, to say nothing of constantly changing shifts, rarely being able to spend quality time with one's family, and so on. All cops have a love-hate relationship with "The Job".
They deserve our respect. O.K. O.K. there are some rogue cops and some are jerks, but very few of them and they don't last long.
If you are looking for jerks and abusers, ask to tour a jail some time.

There are jerks in every profession. But not all cops are that way, my husband is a cop and he treats me like a queen.

Most have control issues. What a better job for a person who enjoys control? It is sad really. Plus I am sure what they may go thru makes them untrusting of people. I do hear about it often that they get very physical and controlling in their relationships.

Possession of weapons like guns and rifles give some people a sense of power.
Smart people who own these things know better.

I guess when you deal with a lot of crap in the day, dealing with the worst that our society has to offer it can make someone hard inside.
