Make sure that you check out the area to see if they have plenty of organizations that interest you.. I don't know if you have ever relocated before. I have found that it takes me about two years to find and make some good friends when I move. I worked for a corporation for years that transferred me every two or three years, and the older I got, the more difficult it became.to do. I spent a lot of money traveling to visit old friends whenever I moved to a new city, and I also spent a lot of time on the phone. I found when ever I moved, I had to go out and socialize much more in order to break the ice and make a social life. It was work. That was my experience. If you never moved before, I imagine it will be difficult in the beginning. If you decide to make the move, keep in mind that you will probably feel very lonely initially but that it will pass. Frankly, I did not find it easy. If you are a real social butterfly and self-reliant, that will make the move easier for you. Moving to a heavily populated area also makes things easier because you are bound to meet some people with the same interests. Keep in mind that it all depends where you are moving from, whether you will be moving away from very close friends and family, and whether this will involve moving to a different region of the country. When people move out of their region within the United States, it is quite possible for them to feel as though they have moved to another country. Outlook and mentality can be very different in other areas of the country. I wish you the very best of luck whatever your decision.

It is expensive and not worth it in my view. There are way too many negatives with Southern California. What about Santa Cruz? Also around Avila Beach or Pismo Beach. Consider Eureka, although it may be too far north for you.

I would say do it if you have the money, but if you don't you might consider buying or renting an RV and travelling up and down the coast of CA to experience all the great beaches from San Diego to Santa Cruz. Check out this site for some beginner info on RVing.

You'll love it out here. I'd recommend San Diego, because I used to live there, but can't afford it anymore. Good Luck and welcome to Cali!

If you can afford it, then go for it. Life is too short.

I'm 53 and I"d be doing it too, if I could afford it....
