Play DVDs more than a few times?
It will only play a new DVD about 2-3 times, then it will say "Disc read error"
There is nothing wrong with the DVDs- no scratches, fingerprints or dirt on them!

there are many things that could be wrong with your PS2.
First of all, try using a laser lense cleaner. this will clean the lense that reads the discs.
Second, this one is one of the inside tricks no one knows about. Alot of PS2's are having a problem with a desensitized magnet. By simply opening the system and putting a strong magnet up to the magnet that spins the disc, it will remagnetize.

A third possible problem is laser voltage. I do not know alot about this one, but there are guides out there to changing them. I provided some helpful links at the bottom. Good luck!

You can find some guides here on DREs and causes, + preventing them.

Sounds like the laser inside the PS2 needs cleaning. Try getting a CD Cleaner Disc and running it a few times.

I've heard playing DVDs is hard on the older PS2s especially.

Maybe try standing it up on its side to play DVDs.

first of all clean ur DVD lens using lens cleaner, if you still then getting error- then

1. either the DVD players lens has got corrupted.

2. or sometimes the DVD player doesnot support the data inside the DVD, because now a days to work a DVD player, must support the data format, it might be .ddat, mpgev, mpg, vio.

If you have been rough with your unit, the laser may not be aligned properly.
