They already do to some extent with The Food and Drug Administration, sadly though, they don't ban things that are really really unhealthy for us like High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is used in almost everything now.

Unless a food has been proven to be absolutely detrimental to ones health...then no!
We already have McDonalds! That kills more Americans than gun-fire,I'm sure!
The national dish of Scotland is banned in this country.It's called Haggis.Look it up for yourself.I don't know why anyone would eat it anyways!

Governments have always decided to eat the finest foods for themselves unless that's the decision that you are aiming to have applied to the poor and working class now, no.
Anyone who doesn't like good haggis hasn't had good haggis. It seem to me you get great food in restaurants in the US but at home it's plastic and swill.
