All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. -- Edmund Burke, British-Irish statesman, author, orator, political thinker and philosopher (1729-1797)
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
-- Martin Niemöller, German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran Pastor
Yes, and Gibson is a hypocrite too.
Mel Gibson does not like Jews. Mel Gibson does not like the official Roman Church. Mel Gibson does not like those that do not share his crazy views. Read www.aish.com below.
Drink Driving is bad enough. But Racism too. And he is supposed to be a Catholic Christian Role Model?
This is like Rodney King in reverse?
Mel Gibson said something like "All the Wars in the World are the Fault of the Jews and Israel." This is the same Anti-Semitic rubbish that GOOD CATHOLIC ADOLF HITLER spouted.
He also called the female officer "Sugar T*ts".
He is an Anti-Semite Bigot who got away with it for far too long. Hutton Gibson his father is a well known Anti Semite Bigot and Holocaust Denier member of Catholic sect OPUS DEI.
Mel Gibson is even starting to take on an uncanny resemblence to Saddam Hussein and Osama - Just look at the picture on www.tmz.com.
He is obviously preparing for his next role a bio of Osama or Saddam.
And Mel Gibson has the chutzpah to make a mini series on the Holocaust.
Alcohol is obviously a good Truth serum. VINO VERITAS.

PS If Mel Gibson aired similar views about African Americans, Chinese or Muslims EVERYONE would be outraged.
I am DISGUSTED at all the LATENT Anti-Semitic and Racist Apologists on this site who have FAILED to CONDEMN Mel Gibson for his Disgraceful Behaviour and Outburst. He is supposed to be a Catholic ROLE MODEL and "devout" Catholic and Christian - but has displayed nothing but HATRED.
By saying Nothing and "Turning a Blind Eye" we ALL condone his behaviour, beliefs and ideas. This is exactly what happened in NAZI GERMANY. BAD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN GOOD PEOPLE SAY AND DO NOTHING.
PPS RoadRager-of-the-North, you say "Words can't kill", but you are "repulsed by megalomaniac politicans who commit murder". You only have to listen to a repulsive megalomaniac politican like Hitler to know that words can kill - his words leading to the death of over 100 million souls in Europe and the World.
Wally, Mel sure as hell doesn't edify my Spirit.

You know what- I think Mel Gibson has every right to be human. He can screw up and get a DUI, he can insult the Jews. Whatever. When did our culture start regarding celebrities this way- they can't even look at someone cross without making the cover of 20 tabloids. They're people too- leave them the hell alone!

no. It's the USA. People are allowed to feel the way they feel, Just as you feel repulsed by Mel Gibson. Thats the great thing about this country. There are plenty of my brothers and sisters overseas fighting for your right to feel anyway you want to feel. Freedom of expression is your American right. Freedom smell it? Smells good doesn't? And... If your not American... Sorry.

Actually no. I'm more repulsed by megalomaniac politicans who commit murder in the name of freedom. Or serial killers who never get caught. Or pedophiles stalking innocent children! Mr. Gibsons veiws are his to have, & hearing him spout off while drunk is no different than the average Joe. However... I wish everyone would take the drinking & driving issue MORE SERIOUSLY!!!!!! His words can't kill, but his drunk driving can! & that's what he got charged with, not ethnic slurs!! His ordeal is a far cry from more dangerous issues going on in the world, & I'm only interested in his criminal act than his poor judgement when speaking!

No, I'm not repulsed. I'm sure everyone's said something they didn't mean before. Everybody in Hollywood just doesn't like him anymore because of The Passion of the Christ. He was just speaking the truth from the Bible. Give him a break. Get over it already!!!!

No. No need the hold any animosity on him or any other dude. You start getting burned up about people you don't even know personally - - I mean, you're putting yourself on a downward track.
Wish him the best, hope he cleans himself up, and you move on. Set you mind on things that edify your spirit.

No. Alcholism is difficult to overcome. Anyone who gets that drunk can be made to say anything.
I'm more pissed off at the police for "leaking" their documents. Some cop sold that to the media, made a killing doing it; and he was sober.

I'm also amazed how how he "put one over" on Christians with his film "Passion...." He produced the movie in order to fund his father's independent Catholic Church because they disagee with Vatican II which stopped the church's negative views of Jews.
