For the health of the tank, you should get about one pound of live rock/gallon of water. There are also huge benefits of a deep sand bed (DSB). It needs to be at least three and up to six inches deep, made up of the fine crushed aragonite and seeded with live sand. The aragonite will SLOWLY dissolve into the water adding calcium to it and will be deep enough to promote the growth of minute sea life and nitryfying bacteria. It will also be needed for some types of fish/invertebrates.

PS
Tonga Live Rock - This comes mainly in two different varieties, branch and deepwater. Both varieties are lightweight for the size and extremely porous. The branch live rock is generally longer and narrow with interesting shapes and sizes, while the deepwater rock is more. It is also extremely porous so only 0.75 to 1.25 lb/gallon (US) is required of this rock. FROM http://www.fishtanksandponds.net/live-stock/marine/liverock.htm

Don't fall for that "all natural" saltwater aquarium BS... They will sell you stuff that NOBODY would be able to keep alive for long. You won't see much living rock or coral in the finest professionally run aquariums. Little by little is VERY good advice if you have to learn that on your own... and the ONLY way to add more living things to an aquarium without disturbing very delicate balances. DEFINITELY don't add something as delicate as living rock to an aquarium not fully established using a small population of hardier organisms and some type of biological filter.

If your going to use the live rock as the biological filtration you should use at least 120 pounds or more. Make sure that you use a good thick sand base, at least 2 inch's. Make sure that the live rock is well cured and the tank is tested regularly before adding any fish. Salt water tanks can be very beautiful.

Good Luck.

Oh, about the size of a fist is big enough and enough weight to free Willy! Unless it's made of transparent aluminum!
