Is anyone really surprised that Israel violated the cease-fire?

Here, after all, is a nation that has defied the United Nations on 321 different occasions?

Refused to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and proudly proclaims its own lawlessness. Only a fool, or a masochist, would count on Tel Aviv to keep its agreements.

Lebanon is just a pawn in the game: Israel's real objective is toppling Bashar al-Assad and militarily confronting the Iranian mullahs – using U.S. troops, of course. The resulting incredibly destructive regional war will see not a few of their old enemies tossed in history's dustbin.

In spite of everything at stake in the midst of what is happening in the Middle east in Iraq, oil, thousands of troops etc. Will the president of the United States forge ahead with this mad plan to "transform" the Middle East. It's an outrage, an act of treachery, and, yes, treason on a scale never before seen.

Those who are in support of this, can go f**k themselves!

Survival and prosperity on their holy land at any price to others.

This invasion of Lebanon is mainly about water.

Of course a secondary objective would be to cause Syria to crumble (Syria always denied responsibility for the Hariri killing; look who gained since Syria pulled out). If Syria crumbles, Iraq is in US hands, so are the Saudis. Egypt has never recovered from their defeat at the hands of Israel, Jordan is weak. Therefore they will have weak nations or virtual Allies around them, ensuring survival.

At a later stage, the circle will expand, and certainly eventually encapsulate Iran too, where they will have the unconditional and military support of the US; after all they did intervene in Iran a few years back.

Israel and the US are playing a similar game: strike at what you think might be unfavourable to you, and who cares about what others think?

However, you cannot blame the UN for using what it can to try and create some semblance of peace in the Middle East. There would never be UN sponsored military intervention to stop Israel since the US holds veto power, so a negotiated ceasefire is the best they can do. Hopefully, political popular pressure would force the US to make the right noises and try to rein in Israel.

However, after seeing the Rice/Olmert common press conference, I wonder who actually is holding the leash.

The formation of the state of Israel was a wrong decision. We have two issues. The first issue is relatively easy to solve. Give the land back to Palestine, all of it. The second issue is what to do with Israel. We should ask the South Africans for advice. South Africa was an apartheid state like Israel but they handed the problem by giving power to the Blacks. They also manged to find a solution that allowed white South Africans to remain. Can we not find a similar solution for Israel.

A couple of days ago Israel attacked a civilian area with cluster bombs. This is contrary to the Geneva convention and someone should be in front of an International Court. This wont happen because they are under the protection of USA. Frankly the whole thing stinks of exploitation, bigotry and hypocrisy.

He who pays the piper calls the tune, and the paymaster is the American government whether it be Republican or Democrat and of course the piper is Israel.
Israel is the puppet of America in the middle east and the sole purpose behind it's aggressive policy is access to Arab oil on behalf of it's paymaster. Don't forget their philosophy is not to turn the other cheek but an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. How can you reason with that policy?

I have nothing against jewish people in general but when a nations (notice i said nation) attitude says "he punched me in the nose so its only fair i shoot him and his family in the face", then i have a serious problem with them. Yes what happened in the second world war was tragic and should never happen again to ANYONE, but violence begets violence, it has to stop!! The fanatics in control of both sides don't really care about the whole, they are only interested in their bloody, revenge inspired vendettas, for them peace is a four letter word and hate is their lifeblood. It can only change when level headed, rational thinking people are put in charge, not sadists. As for the arrogance of the American government, with them it's always "do as i say, not as i do", makes me wonder who really runs the country, as long as they get what they want its OK, say NO and they'll make you pay one way or another. The unrelenting support for israel is only equalled by their government members greed for self serving gain!

Israel sent in special forces to stop Iran from supplying Hezbollah. This is allowed in the seas fire agreement.

As far as bushes plan, well the liberals will not let us do our job (by us i mean the military) so our only hope is to transform the middle east. Either that or turn into glass.

The weak who don't see this are just to stupid to understating, i feel bad for them.

the point of organising a state with a Jewish majority is to offer a refuge for Jews, it fairly is via fact historical past has shown that Jews have been persecuted as a minority very almost everywhere. To "stay among the persons of all countries" is a superb high quality thought, yet sorry, been there, carried out that. the assumption of a Jewish majority isn't a racist one, that's a reaction to anti-Jewish racism. Why do no longer YOU "stay among the persons of all countries"? And why do no longer you prefer to correctly known that the Arabs started the violence against the Jews in 1920?

Hi BT.

Not so much of a question as a statement. If it were a genuine question I'd say I don't know, since every aspect of Israel's policy seems to lead to more misery and instability in the region. this in turn creates the action and reaction that fuels even more violent responses on both sides. Its madness.

What does it want? World control, duh. As a nation that has no right to exist (It was just TAKEN from Palastine or one Arab country, take note at the word TAKEN not bought or traded TAKEN) and as the group of people inhabiting it having a sense of superiority on the racial and religious level, Israel should be punished tremensouly. Terrorists? Hezballah are freedom fighters in my opinion. As is/was anyone who "challenged" Israel. With the Holohoax as an excuse for "their" land Israel believes it can get anything through force, or because the people are such an oh so persecuted race, will be given it, just like the land they are on. I'm not surprised by their violations, it was a mistake giving them any power at all. Being in charge of a town's sanitation is too much power to trust them with.
