Assuming ideal circumstances (Flat land, no other targets or radar emitters nearby), then as far as you can see. Terrain and other targets nearby (other vehicles, especially large trucks) cut into this quite severely.

radar shoots an infared light that can travel for many light years. It bounces back when it hits an object. By measure the amount of time for 2 light rays to bounce back from a moving object, speed is calculated.
