no offense to you; youre dad is TOTALLY wrong.
People are afraid of what they dont understand, so I guess hes not a fan. Power Rangers was originally Japanese but then they added cutscenes with the American teens for the US audience. Hotdogs are made from processed meats like pork, chicken and beef all in one. If you need some sites to learn how to pronounce japanese words and names then try going to some of the anime/manga forums like www.absoluteanime.com, or most fan sites will have vocabulary words for stuff. If you need more Ive got a bunch of stuff handy. I know how it is; my mom says is awful but Im still watching it after 4yrs. ^ . ^ Long Live the Revolution!!

nooodle_ninja,
What the HELL are you talking about?
I really wish people would answer questions that they actually KNEW what they were talking about!!
"Animes were orriginally cartoon porn in Japan. Why do you think the girls are dressed like "school girls" in very short skirts and some have low cut tops. Most the ones on TV are cleaned up but that is what they are based on. "
Wrong! One of, if not THE, first anime was Astro Boy. They are NOT based on cartoon porn. Anime porn is called hentai and is seperate from the everyday anime that's shown. Sort of like regualr Hollywood's movies are seperate from the porn industry here in the States.
"Japanese cartoon porn outsells real life porn over there. They can get extremely kinky with a cartoon and do things a human can't. They are also obsessed with Americans. This is why the eyes are big and round like ours instead of almond shaped like thiers."
Actually, HENTAI does NOT outsell regular anime. If you want to get technical their Manga (Japanese comics) outsells anime by a very good margin.
Japanese people may be slightly obsessed with us, but that's not why their anime is drawn with large-eyed characters. They are drawn that way to express feeling via the eyes. Something that WAS influenced by Walt Disney animation.
Walt drew his characters with slightly larger eyes to reflect their feelings and emotions.
Now,... on to the main question. Your father may be harboring some sort of latent racist feeling towards anything non-American. Try to find out where it stems from and see if you can meet him in the middle. Show him an anime that doesn't show any scantily clad females or ninjas, or anything of the like. Try someting like Grave of the Fireflies or Kiki's Delivery Service. Perhaps anything Ghibli that's been licensed by Disney.
Secondly, Frankfurters do indeed owe their origins to Frankfurt Germany. Similarly, Hamburgers owe their existance to sailors from Hamburg Germany who used to stop into ports and ask for ground beef (raw) served between two slices of bread with an onion.
Power Ranger are Japanese in origin, but have been more "Americanised" as the years have progressed.

"He said anything that is not American is not good."
As much as I do not want to say this, that is a very racist and derogatory remark.
"Is Power Rangers counting as a Japanese show?"
Currently, its an American franchise. Originally, it was Japanese.
Where does a hotdog oringinally come from?
The American story of the invention of the hot dog, like the hamburger and ice cream cone, is often attributed to the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri. However, similar sausages were made and consumed in Europe, particularly in Germany, as early as 1864. The hot dog's association with baseball also predates the 1904 Exposition. St. Louis Browns owner Chris von der Ahe sold them at his ballpark in the 1880s.
Hot dogs were frequently known as frankfurters or franks, but the name "hot dog" became popular by the 1890s. In the 1830s, it was widely rumored that the dogs that roamed urban streets were regularly rounded up (by "dog wagons") and made into sausages; by the 1840s, the term "dog sandwich" was used. The 1860s popular song "Der Deitcher's Dog" (written by Septimus Winner and known by the lyrics "Where oh where has my little dog gone?") contained:

Okay I really don't agree that anime is "bad" because the dubs are already Americanized enough that they really don't carry half the original storyline anymore. I think he is concerned for you, though. Because he doesn't want you to delve into a foreign culture that he doesn't understand. He probably wants the "all-American family" as shown in Leave it to Beaver reruns. In the end it really doesn't matter what he thinks. You are your own person. If you like something and its healthy, do it.

There is no right or wrong here in the general sense.
Thing is your parents normally know what is best for you, even though you can't understand why, and sometimes they can't expalin why.
In the long run if you will listen to your dad and follow his instructions you will be ok, if you chose to "stand up" for your self in this case, more likely than not it will not come out the way you want it to. You will probably find that you won't be happy if you go against your fathers wishes and he will be disappointed as well.
The question you have to ask is not if your dad is right or wrong, but is this something that you really need to argue about?

My son and his friends live for anime, and they are all honor students, so as the parent of an 11 yr old I have no problem with it. Power Rangers as it is shown in America is a mish mosh of American actors with scenes from the original Japanese show. As the new versions are produced though, they are almost all American productions.

Well, your dad is wrong. First because many american cartoons are drawn and devloped in Japan. However, this may just be an overstatement of preference rather then racism as some suggested. Some people like anime and some do not. I am one of them. The last "anime" I was able to get into was speed racer.

OMG don't listen to your dad, Please you are your own person, make your own decisions, stand up for what you beleive. ok Japanese anime can be silly, strange, and a little sexual. there's TONS of different kinds of it! there's ones that are random and have no plot, or some that are over 30 episodes in one season that are all connected to a story plot! if you're old enough try taking a beginner Japanese course at a community college. Trust me you don't want to know where hot dogs come from.....just enjoy them!! as for power rangers...i used to watch the very first season....but it was a little weird, and characters changed to much.
and whatever!!! to the person saying that people who watch those cartoons are dumb...HELLO... JAPANESE PEOLE WATCH THAT STUFF LIKE 24 HRS A DAY and are insanly more intelligent than we are!!
