It depends on a particular person and their perception of their life's goals. I feel Expectations add to the fullness of your life. Dreams and goals you set for yourself are expectations of what and how you want to get in life. Without any expectations. life is mondane and stagnant. Many people prefer not to have expectations as to not be dissapointed in what they could not do.

Good Question!
Imagine that you are at home doing nothing special, not really expecting anything. Then imagine that you were instantly transported to the North Pole, with no idea of how you got there.
You will then be able to realize how much of your life depends on expectation, even if the expectation is only that you will be doing just what you are doing now, only one second later!

Life has three 'parts':

1. we experience the present
2. we remember the past
3. we expect the future.

The questions that arise from this are:

1. is the present really as we experience it?
2. was the past truly as we remember it?
3. based on our memory of the past, will what we presently experience have the effects we expect?

(This answer revised slightly from an earlier version.)

It's like saying never assume. How does one not assume. I would say it is a part of life.

what you are asking is hope still valid, gret expectations amount to nothing, until they are realised,i hope to get a job, i expect i will get a job, those who rely on hope and those who dont wait for hope to get on the right bus, it all depends on your attitude to life.
