At one time there was more slaves in the north than the south because there was more northern states in the union than southern states. The truth is as the man wrote "The Confederacy was a slave nation for 4 years; The United States
was a slave holding nation for 75 years".
To day it is Africa and the middle east who are the main slave holding areas and you wil never hear a gripe about black slaves in africa or female slaves in the islamic world from jesse jackson.
The problem is the news media has always misinformed the public about slavery. it's cause, where it was located, and it's use.
You never hear for example that the union's civiil war chest was
funded by white slaves who were children. It was common practice before and after the civil war for parents in the north(especially poor irish immigrant) to indenture(slave if you're dark, indenture if your white but the same thing.) their children out to
to large northern factories which house them in cold, unheated buildings until they died on their looms. very few of these (thousands ) children lived to adulthood, and their plight was not a priority of abe lincoln , US grant, or any of the abolists of the day. Their lives were used up because they were children and cheaper than blacks, and most blacks could not handle the tedious work that required small fingers.
Another reason the flag is considered racist is because our leaders like jimmy carter, lyndon b. johnson, sonny purdue (once they were elected) turned their backs on the south.
The confederates are to be admired, respected, and honored for the battle well fought, and they will not be forgotten.

The Confederate flag is not always called racist. And it has nothing to do with slavery.
There has been some confusion as to what the "Confederate Flag" actually stands for. Some believe that it's symbolic of the slavery during the Civil War. Originally, the war wasn't occurring over the issue of slavery. It had absolutely nothing to do with it. Throughout the actual war, slavery became a major issue so yes, it can definitely be argued that slavery was one of the issues throughout the war. BUT it was NEVER the MAIN issue for it's occurrence. Therefore, why should the Confederate Flag have anything to do with slavery at all? Just because a certain battle flag was used during the time of the Civil War does NOT mean that THAT was what it stood for. The flag actually was made for the following reason: to be a distinct battle flag so soldiers could tell the difference between two sides. Two of the flags during the Civil War looked to much alike so, therefore, made another one (The Confederate Flag) to show a distinct difference between the two. So, how did the Confederate Flag become a symbol of slavery and racism? The answer could only be PURE IGNORANCE and lack of knowledge of the true Southern Heritage.

Well, technically speaking the South started the Civil War. ONE of the main issues at stake during the War was slavery. Slavery was by this time in US history exclusively a racial institution. The North WAS NOT seeking to expand or even maintain slavery. So since the South started the War. Then lost that War the victor gets to impose conditions on the defeated. The Southern Cause was technically speaking Treason.
Just as one of the conditions of the German defeat in World War II is the prohibition of the Nazi Swastika the Confederate Stars and Bars are out of bounds of polite society. All of this would be different had the South prevailed. A patriotic citizen of the US shouldn't say they support the present country AND they sympathize with an historic movement that fought and died to overthrow that legitimate national government. Also the "Rising Sun" flag of Japan has been outlawed in Japan as a result of its defeat. Here in the US it is just frowned upon to show the Confederate Battle Flag.
Also you do agree that owning people as slaves is evil, don't you?

Actually, I believe racism is based on hatred, fear and ignorance not actually slavery. Slavery is the self appointed ownership of another and robbing them of there freedom of choice. At the time of the conflict between the States, the North had as many abhorrent practices in human degradation as the South, mostly in the form of industrial employees that in many ways were treated worse and had as bad or worse living and working conditions as the slaves of the South. The key difference between them was the fact that as employees, northern workers could choose to leave and live elsewhere and were not by law forced to do the bidding of others. Slavery was not the only issue at hand that brought on the War, but it was the single most abhorrent to those that fought on the side of the North and a strong rallying point that was used very effectively to urge support to the North, from the North, South and foreign powers as well. To specifically answer your question, I don't think people actually find the flag to be racist, but an associated symbol of the South's policies and agenda during and after the War between the States. The flag design is actually very similar to an alternate military flag used by the Navy of the North known as "The Stars & Bars" and both flags bear a strong resemblance to the British Cross.

The confederate flag did not become popular until they tried to desegregate the south in the 50's lets get honest it is racist you might try and paint it otherwise but you know in your heart that is a lie and what the flag represents. I'm part German I would not consider the swastika my heritage. If I displayed it it would be exactly what it is racism and so are the stars and bars. A state does not have a right to enslave people.

Well as a Southern woman, born and bred, it is racist. Well the flag isn't, but what it stood for was a very evil society.
Sorry if that makes you mad.
Racism is not based on farms- but on the belief that one racial segment is inferior to another. The south certainly believed that, as did the north.
And not everyone in the south and or north believed in slavery.
But it is evil.

actual, in case you extremely understood the region you'll see that the Confederacy were hostile to the Union for good motives. The Union became diverging from the structure and abusing the rights of sovereign states. there is extra to the Civil conflict than purely slavery, yet something tells me you don’t understand that. also in case you examine the CSA, you'll see that they saved most of the mandatory concepts of the U. S. structure. you're the made from a public college preparation that desires to color the Civil conflict as if it became in ordinary words about good VS. undesirable. The North became really the aggressors contained in the Civil conflict. flow do a touch studying on the 1000's they killed even as they burned and destroyed SC. The North became purely as racist because the south. in case you imagine the North became the moral facet, you're way off. The South had to seceded and be left on my own. The North became the guy who were going to apply brutal stress to emphasise the seceded states back into the Union. flow examine a heritage e book. how can you call your self a patriot because you want to get rid of the first modification precise of loose speech?

that flag was put out around the 50's, and it was meant to be and is racist. prior flags were not. slavery was not based on farm land, it was base on people who thought they had the right to crush other people down into the ground. what about the penny? does that piss you off to? you're probably happy with that one. how about the paper bag test? we don't have this kind of stuff in the north....sorry to bust your bubble but the south owns that period of time in our country.
indentured slaves are not the same as slaves!!!!

When people see the Confederate flag, they think of slavery and racism, not farmland. A flag is nothing but a piece of cloth with no intrinsic meaning. People give it meaning, and over time it has acquired the meaning of being a symbol for racists.
