Because Yahoo Answers charges you 5 credits for asking questions.. when you pick a best answer to your question you'll get 3 points back.

You're essentially "spending" points to ask a question, and you're getting "paid" points to answer a question. Just the way the whole thing works.

no you ANSWER questions to get points. asking them loses 5, but if a best answer is chosen you get 3 back. its a bit silly i know, but strangely addictive.
answering gets you 2 points.
