Sugar In The Gas Tank

Sorry, it's very unlikely that sugar in a car's gasoline tank will cause any problems to the car's engine. Sugar doesn't dissolve in gasoline, and the car's fuel filter will take out this granular contaminant. However, if there's enough sugar (or salt, or sand, or...), you could block the fuel filter or cause damage to the fuel pump, thereby starving the gasoline engine of fuel.

Alternately, there's what Brazil is doing: converting all that excess sugarcane and its waste products, and using that to make ethanol for their large fleet of E85/flex fuel vehicles...

Sugar is water soluble. It does not mix with gasoline. More than likely it will just stay there in the bottom of the tank and remain inert. I can, however get pulled into the fuel filter and clog it up. It's still a pain in the butt to get it out of the tank. The tank has to be removed.

It used to be a vindictive measure, It WILL dissolve in gasoline. he vehicle BILLOWS white smoke and it ruins the vehicle.

It s absurd to reply as Tigris did. 300 to have it fixed. That is total B.S.

As for mythbusters I saw the episode. They re not very intuitive.

So here s a challenge. For all you people out there who claim that it s harmless, will only clog the filter, etc... If it won t cause any damage, pour a cup or so into your car, let it sit overnight, and then attempt to drive it to whatever fantasy world the Myth Busters live in. Then you can come back on here and post what a stupid idea it was.

G head, I double dog dare you.

I actually just saw something about this on Myth Busters. Apparently, the whole thing about putting gas in someones gas tank is wrong. It will not ruin the engine or cause any major damage. Unless of course you dump a whole lot in (like a few pounds.

Contrary to popular belief, sugar will not dissolve in gasoline. It will however, clog the fuel pickup and keep the car from running right. Since there is some alcohol in gasoline, it will dissolve in that and more likely than not, will not harm the engine.

Sugar will have no effect on the car. The fuel filter will filter the sugar out and have no effect on the engine. They prove this to be a myth on mythbusters.

Oh man I'd love to do this to all the cars around that spew out bad exhaust. I've thought about it seriously, but it's not worth getting caught.
