Copied this re Tom and Jerry not allowed to smoke .
Classic cartoons are to have smoking scenes cut out.
Politically correct TV chiefs made the decision as kids' channel Boomerang after Ofcome investigated a complaint.

The complaint about Tom and Jerry said scenes in which Tom smoked a roll up in one episode and a rival cat smoked a cigar in another were inappropriate for young viewers.

According to The Sun Ofcom said: "We recognise that these are historic cartoons, mostly produced in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, at a time when smoking was more generally accepted.

"The smoking usually appears in a stylised manner and it is frequently not condoned, but the level for editorial justification required for the inclusion of smoking in such cartoons is necessarily high."

What about Crusty the clown...adicted to most things.

Well, I've never smoked pot in my entire life, but I think Half Baked is one of the funniest movies ever. Most kids who start smoking do it because their parents do. If your parents don't smoke, then you can Febreze your clothes to death, but they're still gonna find you out and clobber you for smoking because they don't and expect you not to either.

I watched cartoon characters smoke, jump off cliffs, get smashed by safes, and get sucked into vacuum cleaners and I haven't done one of those things. Blaming cartoons is scapegoating entertainment because the parents don't want to take the blame for not instilling proper values in their kids. A basic lesson kids should be taught (if they're too stupid to figure it out on their own) is that you shouldn't do everything you see on TV, cartoons or live-action. Why should cartoons be forced to give moral lessons?

Like, take Sesame Street. I have no problem with teaching racial harmony, but have you seen that piece of crap show lately? It's so damn hokey! Where's the Count, and Monsterpiece Theatre? Why is it so much Elmo and live kids? Didn't having different-colored puppets teach racial harmony? I hate their new focus. Don't gimme morals in my cartoons. Gimme phonics, gimme Bloodhound Gang, gimme Oscar b!tching and moaning. But morals are for parents to teach.

With Krusty, and Zelma and whoever else you have, you've got cartoon characters that are no longer just for children- a really wide age range of an audience enjoys it... I think it would be shame to ban the ciggies from it just because a small portion of the audience didn't like it- I mean, with Krusty at least, you can see the effects of smoking too- he's in dreadful shape!

As for them banning the cigarettes in Tom and Jerry, well... what is the world coming to, I ask you?

Is that pathetic or what, you would possibly want to imagine that each and each one the violence between Tom and Jerry might want to were more desirable of an issue to the computer brigade than the ciggies, nevertheless i think with a million in 4 children residing in a house with violence at the moment and by no skill something been carried out about it, it sort of feels the computer brigade imagine it truly is effective, for goodness sake its a damn caricature cat and mouse, its no longer authentic and by no skill did everybody i comprehend any damage through observing it, wager its computer to belt your children yet now to not allow them see a cig.

Why should you bother cutting smoking scenes out. It is seen in other programs, and even if it was cut out, it would not stop children seeing people lighting up a cigarette.
Also, if they are cut out, what about the videos and DVD's. If children have the videos, they are still seeing the black cat lighing a cigar.

Bottom Line, It is pointless.

Well I suppose they would get around the whole lot soon enough. However Crusty the clown is not exactly a children's cartoon. Its one of those 'one size happens to fit all' kind of cartoons that become branded as family entertainment. .. Who know he might get it too.
