I have a 99 Dodge Stratus, just had a tune up and it was running fine. Yesterday the "check engine" light came on and it is running very sluggish now. The speedometer is working and I have plenty of gas. Any ideas?

it is your oxygen sensor there is carbon built up on it and after the tune up the fuel burns off better and clogged the sensor it is not a major problem it is cheap and easy to change this is very common after a tune up these should be changed about every other tune up but dont worry it is not the transmission and they did not screw up your car this is normal

Check for codes set in the computer (you don't have to have a code reader for Dodge). Do this by turning the switch on and off three times quickly (leave in on position after third time) and one of the lights will flash on the dash. It begins with five flashes and then five more (handshake code) and then all flashes after that is the code stored in the computer (count flashes and pauses in between). After all codes are flashed it will then flash the "handshake code" again. Once you obtain the codes you can call an auto parts store near you to find out what is wrong and what to repair. Hope this helps & good luck !

How many miles on the vehicle? Your problem could be a number of things. Disconnect your positive battery cable for about five minutes, that will reset your computer, your check engine light should go off, the car may run better. If that doesn't work, let me know, and we can troubleshoot another item.

well if they just gave it a tune up, they might not have gapped the spark plugs correctly......just a thought, it could be a number of things, but if they just worked on it and started happening right after that it is possible that they may have made a bo-bo in some part of the tune-up......check-engine lights are not reliable either, they call them dumby lights.....talk to the person that did the tune up and ask them if there was anything else that they know of wrong with the car...

yes go back to the shop and complain about a misfire, that's due to the fact that they just worked on the engine and replaced the plugs, you most likely have a cracked plug, lose plug wire or something directly related to the work done, if this is not the case and it something unrelated then you pay, but to not go back and go somewhere else is throwing money away, plus mechanics don't like fixing a crappy problem after someone else just did the gravy work incorrectly

Welcome to the computer age!!
Your car has an onboard computer. Computers can be programed to do about anything. When the warning light comes on the computer makes your car run like sh*t so you'll run down to the dealer like a good little girl to put money in their hands.
They'll do their special little trick to re-set the light and make a payment on their Mercedes.
Life is good . . . for them.

I have had this kind of experience so the best is to contact the service centre ASAP or it may cause damage to your engine and you may have to completely replace the engine.Dont take chances. Dont drive it first fix it.
