Depends on how much money you want to spend. If you want to spend a lot then there are endless options. Cheaper way is a new exhaust and maybe a cold air induction

install a V8, it will bolt right in with little mods and its the smartest place to start, or, you can hop up the 6 banger to run very well, even keep up with most stock to slightly modified V8's. but the first thing you need to do is put sub frame connectors in it and address the traction in the rear no matter what engine your going to run.

then play with the exhaust and search the internet for used 6 cylinder parts. remember that 6cyl parts arent cheap but you can get a four barrel intake a header or headers and so on, another thing you can do is a good tune up and valve adjustment and if you could tell me what kind of carb you have i know some tricks

There isn't much you can do to your straight-6 on a budget to get more horse power. Best thing would be for you to scan local papers, and autotraders, and find someone who is selling a running motor, like a 350, and drop it in to your Nova.

First, make a plan with a budget. Shop around. I would start with a 350 and turbo350 tranny. Save your cash so you can do it right. Take it from experience, if you nickel and dime your car it will do the same back. Good luck.

If it's got the two piece intake and exhaust manifolds get a header for it. The power increases quite nicely with one on that engine.(some of the later 6cyl. 250c.i. engines came with an integral intake-meaning it was cast with the head as one piece so those you can't put a header on.)

How 'bout a Ford 347c.i.d. stroker, with a 12psi blower. Got one in our Mustang. Very strong. Runs with all the big blocks.
