Those centers provide a valuable services because they take people in at their lowest moments and help them to recognize their addiction problem and find better ways to cope and deal. The AA and NA are very necessary too because people with these types of addictions need support for the rest of their lives.

You need to take the person away from the source of their problem, not just the drugs and drinks. If we didn't have treatment centers than people would feel even more external pressure to continue on their path of destruction.

The treatment centers are the first step and offer major support for people so they will continue wanting to quit and that will prompt them to attend AA. I think the centers are great!

rehab is for quitters!

But seriously, familial support, and an eventual admission of the underlying causes will provide more and better chances of avoiding relapse than all the money in the world. AA and NA are fine, but...the familial support (or from friends) is the most important.
