Maradonna

Technically fantastic, endure much much more kicking and slaughtering than Pele (in Pele's time footballers was still considered 'sportsmen'), and Pele, in general, had better players around him.

Pele, he embodied the very spirit of the game unlike Maradonna who is also famous for the infamous "hand of God" incident. Also Maradonna's life off the pitch was horrendous. Maradonna could never depose Pele, a true ambassador of the sport and clearly the greatest ever.

Maradonna is incredible. Ok he've done the mistake(?) of doing drugs, but he still was fast and amazing player to watch. Pele it's another amazing player, and brazilian... they where the ones that invented and re-invented football. Pele was the beginning of a generation of great football that make wonders and makes people watch them, even if they don't like football. Pele of course!!!!

Maradonna for me.
He helped one decent and one ordinary Argentine side to two World Cup finals, I do not think Argentina would have won in 86 without him and would have not have even come close in 90 had he not been there. I think Pele would not have been missed so much in 70 or in 58 brilliant player though he was.

Maradona is the best no questions asked based on individual skill.

Pele scored lots of goals and won 3 world cups, but you've got to look at the Brazilian teams he played with. If Maradona would have played with the same calibre teams as Pele he would probably have 3 world cups as well.

A football players rating is usually judged on individual skill, and on that note Maradona wins hands down.

Maradona is the better player, without doubt.

Even though maradona got involved in drugs it is does not mean anything when it comes in judging who is better.

Maradona was better in all aspests of soccer, dribbling, passing,
and most of all a team leader.

He won championships with teams and players that were not of star status, whereas pele had stars surrounding him. One example is when Maradona took Napoli to their first ever serie A title.

His best ever performance was in the 1986 world cup. With 4 world cups pele played, none of his performance comes close to Maradona's performance in 1986.

Pele for sure.

Pele played as an inside forward, striker, and what today would be referred to as the playmaker position. It is controversially quoted that he scored 1,281 goals during his career (see statistics, below). Pelé's technique and natural athleticism have been universally praised: he was an exceptionally prolific goalscorer and was renowned for his dribbling and passing, as well as his pace, strong shot and an exceptional heading ability for a man of average Brazilian height. His most spectacular move was probably the "bicycle kick".

Pele is the only footballer ever to win three World Cup trophies. His number 10 shirt has become traditional among creative attacking midfielders and forwards, and many of the sport's great players have since worn it

Pele...not even close.

Elevated the game in the US immensely. Maradona basically had a good career, then in and out of rehab for cocaine problems. Pele wasn't just a player, he is an icon. 75% of the people alive I would think would recognize him on sight.

Pele without a doubt, all round ability, skill, and love of the game, respect given to his fellow professionals, and the most important thing he never, repeat never cheated an opponent on or off the field, oh and one other thing he never took any drugs.
