When I was 5 and 6 i took gymnastics. I didn't stick with it, though, and then I seriously got involved in dance. Now, I STILL dance, but I thought it might be fun to conquer my dislike of gymnastics and actually try it.

But, the problem is, I'm afraid I'll get stuck with the little kids because I'm behind all the poeple my age. I am determined to put my pride aside and just go for it, but i could use a litle encouragement... and help with some simple moves i should know when first entering gymnastics. Thank you all so much!!

Ask the owner of the gym or studio whether there are any beginner classes for people your age. Be honest and tell her/him you don't want to be in a class with little kids. There will be a place who wants your business somewhere!

As for what to work on, it's hard to answer that without knowing what you can already do. If you can't do backbends, start practicing pressing up into backbend and holding to gain strength. Since you dance, your flexibility is probably already quite good. Practice your cartwheels and walkovers, too.

when i took dance, there were a few new girls every year. they didnt put them with little kids, they put them with kids there age who were already dancing a few years. they might do the same with you, or they might put u in a class that did the same thing as you or no experience at all. i dought they will put u in a class with ALL kids that are smaller than you!
~hope this helps~

you might want to go to a class that is just recreational for beginers. my gym has beginer classes for kids up to 14 years old. so just go and try! you are only getting worse by not trying!
