My husband and I did a favor for my best friend yesterday afternoon and watched her 2 kids (we have no kids) -- ages 10 and 7. They had fun swimming in the pool and then we went inside and ate & watched TV. They are basically good kids and I'd say she & her husband are basically excellent parents but I was slightly alarmed at some of their rude comments (demanding certain foods for lunch as if I were a restaurant and certain programs on TV), very messy eating habits (not cleaning their plates and half of their meal ending up on the floor, especially for the 10 year old), and not saying thank you when I dropped them off, nor did they help to carry THEIR clothes and toys from my car to their home. Should I say something? Are they just being kids? My friend wants to know "how the day went". Thanks for all advice.

Tell her, but make sure you throw in how excellent you think she is as a parent so it's not like you're attacking her. They're being kids to a point, your house isn't their house and they should know how to act when they're a guest though. 10 (and 7) is old enough for manners.

I think that in their lives this may be normal behavior. I think the parents enable this behavior.

You should let your friend know that the children are very messy eaters & tell the children to remove their items from your car in front of a parent.

Looks like those little devils are having lots of fun with you. They probably behave better at their home. Kids allways know who they can mess with. I am not sure saying sth would help. You should sort it out with the kids.

i think you should tell her...but make sure to include good things as well as bad things so she won't be offended.
