No it's not true. You know how power surges work? Big storm rolls through and sends surges of electric to your homes. Without power surges on the other end, this could possibly damage your equipment.
However, you can also get a power surge through the cable line, phone line, or through the electric. So while it is possible, it's not very probable that it will actually destroy a modem. (It has happened).

Raining doesn't kill your DSL modem. :) however lightning might...just like dial up, DSL modem also attachs to a phoneline and the there's always a risk that lightning might travelled through the phone lines and fried your modem.

Not unless you are outside, but I personally don't go on the Internet in storms for safety reasons including the possibility of a power surge which could definitely damage your computer. Peace!

No,i live up north and it rains all the time.I use mine rain or shine.Although it is wise to shut all electrical equipment down if begins to thunder and lighting.

N0 that is false. You might be referring to lightning which does have the capacity to seriously harm electrical equipement.

i did have that problem but it is not normal in my case it was water dripping into the box sealed it up and haven`t had any problems
