I wore fake nails for over 10 months and removed them today. My natural nails are in really bad condition....deep, uneven ridges, some are split in the middle, all are paper thin and of course, very short and stubby. What can I do to be presentably for work? Polish is not enough. I did not think they would look soooo bad!!

Don't buff them too much, because they are so thin they will be extra sensitive right now! Put on a couple coats of clear polish and then a very bland colour like beige so that they don't stand out too much, yet still look groomed. Then let them grow out. That's the only way to get rid of those awful ridges. You can't buff them out. Sorry!

10 months?? OMG!!!
i removed mines after a month and a half and i could not bare it... i would advise u to take nails and hair vitamines u will find them in any drug store...
use a growth and strengthening nail polish u will find it in a pharmacy ..
try not to do lots of housekeeping, and be extra careful with everything u do..
keep them clean and dry all the time to avoid infection..
dont do any manicure for quiet a good time in a nail place to avoid infection..
make sure u dont put any new nails until they have grown completely and back to normal... it took mines around 3 months to look normal again..

good luck

Keep cuticle oil with you at all times, apply often especially after you wash you hands. Keep them cut short so any of the uneven ridges don't snag and tear more. Nail Envy by OPI can help too.

go to the local Walgreen's and get a four sided buffer for nails, it looks like a square and it has four different grains to file and buffer your nails, first you file all the ridges and imperfections out and then buff them till they shine, that with a good clear coat or even color will hold your nails over until they are strong and back to normal....

You just have to wait it out. I sand them smooth and keep clear polish on them. It only takes like 6 to 8 weeks.
didn't think about the consequences did ya?

Pro nails makes a product that is great for this, they sell it on QVC. You might want to check out their web site.

yep, I understand............I took mine off about 6 months ago....did everything everyone told me to do.........guess what????????? nothing works but time and it may take up to a year.........I gave up and put them back on. I am 60+ and worn them most of my life.....they have never caused me any health problems. Because I work in the yard all the time, I still want nice nails when I put my clothes on.............it is up to you.....
