It depends on what sort of person you are. Dogs smell and though you would get used to it, your guests wuold not. Dogs are more personal and you can take them for walks but you need more time for all that. Cats are cute but you can't take the for walks and they will go oof with your neighbour if your neighbour feeds them- they have no loyalty.
Which ever you get, get pet insurance, vet bills are expensive!

It all depends on your lifestyle really. Cats are pretty independant so they are a good pet for someone on the go. Dogs need extra care, walking and training. Plus they tend to behave badly if they don't get enough human affection or attention. I have both cats and dogs....so that means i am insane.

it's not a matter of whats better but what do you have time for? do you have time to walk a dog? bathe it? cats don't need to be walked & clean them selves. but both offer companionship. when i get home from work i am greeted by 2 large dogs & my siamese . the 3 of them are always together..the other 2 cats in my house are not as social. or chalane your selfe & get both! my siamese was 6 weeks old when i brought her home & my older dog dixie took to her right away! now that i have another dog also , dixie has taught her that the cats are part of her "pack" i can honestly say my 3 cats & 2 dogs are all one happy family. so i don't think one is better than the other it's a matter of what type of friend your looking for!!!

It all depends on what type of a pet you like. If you would decide to get a cat you wouldn't have to train it to use the bathroom outside like you do with a dog. Some cats like to hide and be left alone whereas most dogs like to be played with and have that personal bonding time with you. So its all pretty much up to you. Personally for myself I like dogs... I just would like to have a pet that I can always play and spend time with.

It depends what you are looking for. If you do not have too much time get a cat, they are far less needy than a dog and easier to mantain. If you are looking for loyalty get a dog but this has a price: more time and care. I personally prefer cats they fit more my lifestyle and are intriguent creatures even though they may prefer to be on their own some times.

A cat if you don't want to let it out for bathroom trips or walk it. A dog if you want to play ball or something with it. Cats aren't as social as dogs so keep that in mind.

cats are cool because they are independent and can be left alone for a weekend if enough food and water is left out. but that same independence can also be seen as aloof and unloving. dogs are WAY better because of they are so loyal and have unconditional love for their owner. you can go outside for 45 seconds to check the mail and when you come back they act like you have gone gone for a week, jumping up and down all excited to see you. a cat will never do that.

If you want a sharp clawed, scratching, hissing, hoity and bombastic pet that kills small defenseless animals for entertainment then buy a cat. However, if you want a loyal, devoted companion that is fun, love walks and adores you, then a dog is your best bet.
Mind you, cats are brilliant to throw at burgulars... mmmmeeeeoooow!
