Women are supposed to have more fat on their bodies to prepare them for the eventuality of giving birth and breast feeding. It's a genetic thing.

Seriously, there is a good reason. It is for carrying a child in her. The big butt design allows the cavity, structural strength and cushion for that purpose.

First the large proportion of muscle there is helpful in childbirth. Also, there is a layer of fat just under women's skin which reduces the muscle definement, artificially making it look bigger.
