hmm... good question.
i have both a PC and a laptop.
they are both excellent. Laptops and computers are easy to upgrade.
pc's you just unscrew the case, slot in the memory, screw the case back.
laptops you just unscrew the square panel on the bottom, slot the memory in and screw the panel back.
hard drive upgrades on laptops are easy to upgrade, unsrew the side panel and the hard drive slots out. unscrew it from the frame. screw the new one on the frame. slot the frame into the laptop and voila.
pc's... unscrew the case... unscrew the hdd, put new in in. connect IDE lead or whichever your pc takes. and screw back in.
pc's you can have more than one hard drive (normally). laptops you can normally only have one
if your travel or have limited or no space then get a laptop. they last around 2-3 hours on a full charge. but all laptops vary.
it depends entirely upon your needs. there are somethings i can do on the laptop i cant do on the PC, but there are some things i can do on the pc but not the laptop.
as i mentioned both are good.
if you get a PC get one with Media Center Edition 2005, it is the latest version of Windows XP and the most reliable. we got a new comp. on friday with MCE and it is great.
if you get a laptop or PC try and go for one with the "vista ready" logo under the designed for XP logo. they are futureproofed more than normal XP's.
also, bear in mind you can upgrade and change your keyboard and mouse as much as you want on a PC, whereas on a laptop you can't. you can plug an external one in, but then you may as well just have a desktop.

the answer really depends on your needs. i have both
Laptops being run for a long time and running heavy programs have problems with heating issues. thus, if you're a big gamer and you don't travel with your computer nearly as much, you should probably stick with a desktop system. If you ARE going to go with a laptop and plan to run it for extended periods of time, buy the docking station with the fans in it... this will extend the life of your laptop quite substantually. If you're on the fly and only use your computer for short times, just go with the laptop.
another thing you might consider is that it is generally easier to upgrade a desktop system (something which is difficult if not impossible on certain laptop components). Furthermore, Desktop technology is cheaper, so you'll probably be able to afford higher performance for the same cost. Also, if you're like me and do your own work on your computer, you know that laptops are exceedingly difficult to work with in comparison to desktops, and doing your own computer building also saves a TON of money.
you really have to decide on your own for this one, or provide more info on what you plan to use the comp for, then i could make a better recommendation.

Well
Doyou want to play games = PC
Is it just for surfing = laptop
Is money an option/no = High spec laptop
The real question is what do you want it for, spec wise it doesnt really matter these days as pc's and laptops tend to be similar in spec......but not price:P
personally if you dont need the space i would go for a pc, a lot more upgradability!.

Unless you absolutely have to use your pc in different locations, get a desktop. You get far more for your money and you can run more programs on it.
I can't imagine trying to do graphics or music on a laptop with some fiddly little mouse. The screens are awful, I prefer a 19" CRT. I just don't get eyestrain with them but have to wear glasses with a tft. The keyboards make typing long documents a pain. The batteries cost a fortune and wear out. They cost more to have fixed and usually have to be posted away.
A desktop takes up more space but its so much more versatile, easier to upgrade, easier to add RAM and cheaper to buy.

what do you need?
power for gaming, ability to expand and build up the system = Desktop
portability, not too intensive gaming high end processing= laptop
-------------------
I've recently decided to swap out my desktop for a laptop, because I want the portability, I program and want to be able to work anywhere and not just at home. I can't play the games I play on my desktop at the highest settings, but I'm okay with it.
the best desktop can outpoerform the best laptop, so the biggest advance of the laptop is its mobility, if you only need to use one at home go for the desktop.

It really depends on what you want it for.
A desktop will get your more bang for your buck. They are by far cheaper than their equivalent in laptops. However, they do not have the portability.
So, if you plan on just using it at home by all means look at desktops, but if you think you want to be portable with it (and are willing to pay twice as much) then look into a laptop.
Desktops are cheaper, easier to upgrade, and less settings have to be changed on a daily basis.
Laptops are mobile, lightweight, can be more comfortable, and are generally more expensive.
I personally prefer Laptops.
Hope this helps!

Depends on your needs. Laptops have the convenience of being mobile. If you see yourself utilizing mobility with your computer, then I would recommend a laptop.
However, if you're short on cash, or looking to make your dollar goes as far as possible, you might want to consider buying a desktop.

if you want to move with technology get a PC. laptops are VERY hard to upgrade and usually require the need to be sent back to manufacturer.

Have both and both have advantages and disadvantages but would say that laptop very convenient for obvious reasons of being portable, etc. Desktop for larger size screen and no setting up to do when requiring to use.
