I really haven't heard anything like this since Lou Piniella getting into it with Rob Dibble, when Piniella was managing the Reds.

Yes, he is more confrontational and has to go. At least Piniella had more credentials and had won a World Series as a manager before getting into it with Dibble. There was no reason for Gibbons to charge into the tunnel and get into it with Lilly, especially during the game. He could have confronted him about it afterward, with others present to prevent such an ugly incident.

Gibbons is definitely a good baseball guy, but he's not manager material, he's more of a coach, and the incidents with Hillenbrand and Lilly show that he does not have the temperament to deal with players. I'm sure that he made both situations much worse by challenging Hillenbrand to fight him, then going at it with Lilly. He should be canned at the end of the year, and they should bring in someone else who can handle players and stress better.

I think Gibbons isn't a good manager at all. 2 players have gotten into a fight with him, which is 2 more than a normal manager. From what I heard, there wasn't a punch fight in the tunnel in Toronto, but there were some words and pushings.

He needs to go. Part of a manager's job is to maintain his team's "chemistry", but he obviously is a detriment in that area. I can see trying to pawn it off on the player once, but now there is a second occurence, with Gibbons as the common thread.

Shea Hillenbrand was right: The "ship is sinking" in Toronto.

The players aren't faultless, but Gibbons is clearly a very bad handler of players. The main part of his job is to keep the players productive, and he is a miserab;le failure at that.
