You have dropped the "u" in humour. Fnar is not a word that I am aware of, and you might well find that British humour extends beyond double-entendre. Sometimes, it verges into the realms of sarcasm, dry wit, wordplay, and occasionally humour is self-depreciating.
It is very sad that most of British humour is lost on Americans. Australians, NZ, Canadians and South Africans all appear to get it but for some reason Americans do not fully comprehend the subtlety of humour when it is given at its best.
There is a translation problem I admit. Have you tried telling jokes to Belgians? Sometimes irony is another form of humour that is lost on the rest of the globe. To really get into the depths of understanding of a culture you have to understand what sort of humour makes them tick.
For example if you were in Greece, and sat around with a table of blokes what sort of jokes do you think you might hear? I know for sure that there would not be many British women who found their jokes remotely funny.
The Germans are another race that have a sense of humour, but I cannot remember what they find funny. The French appreciate most forms of humour, and self-depreciation appears to go down well in comedy clubs.

Mmmm, now that's a hard one.
I'll have to sharpen my pencil whilst I think of a witty comeback.
If it's a double entendre you want, I'd be more than happy to give you one...
Oops, now I've gone and spilt my juice all over the keyboard. That'll make everything sticky now. I hope I have enough Kleenex handy to mop it all up.
Seriously though, I really mustn't make such a "carry on" about a spilt glass of Ki-ora.

(double-entendre - humour using two interpretations)
The English language is so rich with multiple meanings of many words that it easily lends itself to such humour.
It is also a lot easier to be really rude if the saying can also be interpreted benignly.
Would anyone like to compete for the best example of this form of humour?

Because we have such a long history of humour. Even William Shakespeare wrote comedies.

Our humour is based on language and tends not to be physical and so it is inevitable that we go to double-entendre to work in puns, similes and metaphors.

Well we like to tell everyone we have a great sense of humour. The best sitcoms still seem to come from the States.
