I don't know if this is much of an answer, because I have wondered for a LONG time as to why in the world the US seems to support Israel no matter what they do myself.
But, as far as the theory you are inquiring about, it is probably BS. For one thing, Israel has only existed as a country since after WWII, when there was the question of where to put all the people that were rescued from the concentration camps when the war was over. Apparently, some deal made between the US and I'm not quite sure who to put them where Palestine had once existed.
Probably because of the religious significance of the area. (ie: Jeruslaem, et al).
But back to your question. Bush was not president at that time, so he, nor his father I would suspect had any say in the establishment of Israel as a Country in the Middle East. So Bush's self-proclaimed deep religious beliefs really don't seem to play into the reason for Israel's existance. As far back as I can remember, the US has seemed to unconditionally support Israel, regardless of who is President, and regardless of whether the President is a Democrat or a Republican.
I'm not really so sure that the strong religious beliefs of the people in the Middle East are the true basis for their distain of Israel, although many may have lost sight of it. I wonder if perhaps the original problem is the fact that in order to put Israel there in the first place, they literally took away the land that the Palistinians once called home, displacing them and ever since, they have not really had any land of their own to call home.
As an american even, I can't help but empathize with the fact that this was a great injustice to the Palistinian people. After all, what did they have to do with the Holocaust in the first place at all? Why are they paying for what was done to the Jewish people in Europe?
I'm no expert, but it seems logical to me that that would be a valid reason for the Arib World not to want Israel there.
But, I have also noticed that in matters of just about everything, the bottom line boils down to a matter of money (or it's equivalent ie: oil), power and control. So, IMO, the person who told you that theory doesn't sound like they have thought it out very logically.
Any help?

I've also wondered about that. I don't think Bush is thinking along those lines, but Israel wants to make the Holy sites multi-national so that the three religions that hold those sites as Holy, can share their devotion in peace. But, and I could be wrong, I think a part of Revelations says that will be another sign of the approaching Armageddon. Which doesn't necessarily mean the end of the world, just the end of the world As We Know It.....other religions mention that there will be a great upheaval in the world in Dec. 2012. The Hopi Indians and the ancient Aztecs, I forget the others, but perhaps some other commentors will have more information on that.

Actually, the Bible prophecises that many countries will attack Israel, and any ally of Israel has favor from the Lord. The "Great Eagle" will rise up and defend Israel. But that is not why we are allies with them that just further supports the Bible. We have been allies with Israel a lot longer than Bush has been alive. We support them the same as many other countries, because we want to protect them and they are under the United Nations.

I am a christian and it is BS. However I still believe that Jews are the chosen people. But to protect them so we can have Armageddon is pretty far out there. I mean we could start Armageddon without any help from Israel. Just lobs some nukes in a totally in appropriate place and Israel would fall along with us.

What a lot of cobblers. What is judgement day...sounds like a terminator movie. Prophecy, sounds like the omen. Hollywood's crazy team been working overtime.
The reason the world wants Israel to exist is because they have every right to exist and to be left alone. The Muslim countries don't want a country to exist in the Middle East who are not muslim. First saturday, then sunday.

There are certainly such beliefs in the US. How fully Bush shares them, I do not know, though he does seem to have fundamentalist views.. The Jewish community has considerable power, economic and political, and many politicians of all persuasions would find it hard to criticise Israel, so it is not the only factor.
Bush's religion should not be regarded as something that would be conflicting with a search for money, oil and power. The fundamentalists do not seem to have a moral element in their faith. They believe that good works have no effect on whether you are saved or not, only faith in the lord determines this. Wealth and success are believed to be signifiers of god's favour, there fore constitute proof that your faith and therefore your future existence in the Kingdom to come.
This perversion of Christianity is extremely widespread. I believe Bush shares it, remember his making stem cell research illegal. This is an indicator of where he stands. Bomb the hell out of the middle east, but be very tender towards stem cell, because they had a potential of life once.

I doubt that the real reason is so noble. I do not think Bush is honestly motivated by religion so much as maintaining the US status quo. After all, isn't that his job? Wouldn't you be pretty ticked if we had to live like most of the world?
There will be an Israel at the end, regardless of US foreign policy.

The version I heard was that some people believe that Christ's second coming (and all that implies) will happen when armageddon starts, and they think that the Middle East is the likliest place for this.
One of those stories that can't be proven. Soouds too unlikely to me, oil sounds more probable.

Even a religious-heavy President like Bush is not going to risk so much because of a prophecy.
