when you upload something your sending it out onto the net from your computer! like when you upload a pic to e-mail or put on yahoo 360!
a download is something that your bringing into your computer from the net! like when you download a song!

Upload and download have to do with which direction data flows, and which device is larger.
You DOWNLOAD music from your computer to your iPod.
You UPLOAD from your USB storage device to your computer.
You DOWNLOAD a web page or a song from a HUGE internet server to your computer.
You UPLOAD the web page you created to the HUGE server that will put you page on the net.

Uploading is sending something FROM your computer TO the internet (for example, you can upload a picture to http://photobucket.com/ )
A download is bringing something from the Internet to your computer. (You download a free trial of a program from a website)
