It's all a bit unclear. From memory the earliest known human fossil types are Australo-pathicus from (you guessed it) Australia, and rama-pathicus ('scuse spelling for both), which I thought was from South America. Then it seems to be an anthropological given that humanity originated in Africa.

from what is taught at school, africa (i think further to the north) is where the human race originated. but as the continents were much closer together at that time it was easy to move from now what we call africa to the other continents in the world.
