I think McCain needs to shed the political baggage and run as a Libertarian.

He'll get a significant number of votes from both the Democratic and Republican voters, and could easily take the race as a 3rd party candidate.

McCain is a republican. Just because he has some faults with the current administration about the war and the environment doesn't necessarily make him a democrat. He may be moving closer to being an independent, but I'd still put him with the republicans due to some of his views on other issues.

You need to look at McCain's policies on issues like abortion and national security and you will see that he isn't a Democrat. He might be an independent. But he is actually a rational respectable Republican - an endangered species. He is a decent man who respected by liberals and conservatives alike - even those like me who disagree with many of his positions. Bush disgraced himself by spreading rumors about him that he was crazy because of his POW experience during the Rep. primaries in 2000 (this from a guy who got his name put at the top of a 3 year waiting list for the national guard while guys like McCain put their lives on the line - I've been to Hanoi and seen his flight suit and the cell he was kept in, it's no joke what he had to go through.) The GOP should hold on to him if they have any sense whatsoever.

If people vote on an issue by issue basis, as many claim they do, does it matter if someone is a Republican or Democrat...

I would have no problem with a John Kerry/McCain ticket in the next national election.

It should prove interesting.

Yeah, I dont like him either which scares the daylights out of me. Is there anyone better than the choices we are being handed? Hillary? Gore? McCain?Edwards? They all suck! McCain may be the lesser of the evils but Im not sure by how much.

Let him remain a Rep, he's the only one who give that party credibility! Love that guy!
