if it is, i'd ask for the chapter and verse (though they call chapters something different, in the koran - those scamps!). the covering of a woman's hair (a woman's EVERYTHING, generally) is practised among orthodox jews, as well, after marriage. it's touted as a modesty thing - that one might not lust after another's wife - but it does seem a bit like a convenient control device (and, to be fair, costume for non muslim men, when taken to its extreme) for the men who "own" these girls/women. as i recall this trick was used to prevent a certain lad from marrying the lass he was promised, in the old testament (rebeckah was the promised girl, and he got her, eventually, though he may have had to marry the rest of her sisters, as well - these things happened, back in the day... i forget the lad's name)... while completely covered, he couldn't tell her older (apparently less desirable, and a boor at family dinners) sister was not his betrothed. TOO LATE! YOU MARRIED 'ER! tricksy, those arabs were... like everyone else, in there, including the purported writer and protagonist (a hint - god).

I think it goes back to the traditions of those peoples before Islam was around...they wore it to keep sand out and it just became traditional
