The travesty rule is not the mercy rule. The travesty rule would be violated if a player acted in an unsportsmanlike manner, for instance if he skipped around the bases on a home run in a blow out. The existence of the rule probably keeps it from ever being violated. That and the assurance that the opposing pitcher being shown up would try to decapitate the player at the next at bat.

The travesty rule... basically a limit of how many runs a team can score is 10.... as far as I know is only used in softball.... but never in MLB.

There's no limit in how many runs a baseball team can score in an inning or a game...

just a guess you may be referring to a rule or perhaps a long standing precedent where the umpires can call the game a forfeit because of unruly fans or if the players on one or both teams ignore repeated warnings from the crew to halt a beanball war or the like.
