this is one of my favorite quotes. I've always taken it as, an insight to what the person values. For ex. a gossipy person is going to talk about people and care for material items. Whereas, a idea talker is going to be looking forward and thinking about how to improve things or problem solve. That's just a quick answer. Of course, it's more in-depth.

Ideas are bigger than all of us, they truly (and although it sounds cliche) transcend time and space. An idea can last thousands of years, and many of them have, i.e. religion, power, economy.
Events can bring us together, or push us apart. Regardless, events always carry with them some kind of consequence, the results of which may have many or few affects on us culturally, or individually, and are usually beyond our control. What does an event have in common with an idea? It's still bigger than the individual. An event can shape us for a time, but an idea can affect a civilization, for many generations.
And lastly you have people. In the grand scheme of things, people come into this world, and leave just as quickly as they came. A person can have a great idea, or be responsible for a significant event, but in the end, they are just a person, in a world filled with people.
In other words, people are common, and for the most part, insignificant. Events happen on a regular basis, and have a moderate affect on all of us, so it stands to reason that many of us would be discussing events. Ideas influence the flow of civilization. If you look back, all through history, it was ides that shaped our world, and will continue to do so for as long as we are here. So it is ideas that occupy the great minds, because the great minds are interested in influencing the unfolding of our civilizations.

well.... lets see... its is true that Great minds discuss ideas... they are usually the ones who initiate things... Average minds discuss events because they pay more attention to whats going on instead of how to can or make better whats going on..... and small minds discuss people because they have nothing else better to discuss because they don't use there mind to make things better and they don't know what events are transpiring in the world

well since ur teacher is asking what u think u could have a different interpretation than me but this is what i think it means...great minds discuss ideas means to me that great minds have the power to discuss what is really on their minds...that a great mind is able to think and speak clearly and they are able to get there point across even tho it might not always be rite....avereage minds discuss events i think means that avereage people only no what is going on around them and they arent able to talk about all the facts all the time...small minds discuss people means to me that a small mind is always concentrating on who is better than who and they cant focus on the big picture...small minds always feel the have to impress instead of staying true to who there are....i hope i helped out!!

I think it means that small minds will go around talking crap about people and spreading rumors, average minds help find ways to solve problems and events and grate minds create new ideas and make things like the lightbulb

I think it means that you need to do it yourself. Hence the "what YOU think this means." part of "Write a paper on what YOU think this means." It doesn't take alot of brain power, and the teacher will respect an answer written in your own words vice what other people tell you THEY think it means. Besides, your teacher will be able to tell your writing style apart from someone elses, and would know right away if it's something that you would come up with. Don't cheat your way through school. You're just cheating yourself.

smart people discuss new things and ideas. Average people discuss average things like the news. Small people have nothing better to do than to discuss other people.

Great Minds: They are concerned with solving problems, generating new ways to accomplish goals and developing solutions to problems.
Average Minds: Typically talk about the weather, sporting events, and generally things happening at that time.
Small Minds: They are typically gossiping, worrying about others rather than themselves.
The things people talk about reflects the depth of their minds and the quality of their character.

She's talking about gossip. It's philosophical.
Means smart people come up with new stuff, the future and benifiting others. Average People discuss events, as in the present and how it affects themselves, and Dumb people talk about other people, something that won't benifit anyone.
