I suspect we are already in that mode, but world leaders are reluctant to call it that.

More importantly, what are we all trying to accomplish?
Are the muslim terrorists trying to kill off all non-believers?
And what about the western nations...what are their goals?
China seems to be in a good position to take over the world, economically.
North Korea - who knows what the hell they're planning.
Iran is on a mission to destroy Israel.

And you know what will do us all in?
Some little virus...a plague like the avian flu.

Yes, EU/UK/US vs. PROC (China), FTC (Russia), North Korea.

From today's headlines:

"North Korea lashed out Tuesday after the start of joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises, saying they nullified the armistice in the 1950-53 Korean War and warning that it may take retaliatory action."

Like Austria in the First World War, this will be set off by a small nation looking to save face. The Middle East situation is only a diversion from the more critical situations. Bush got us into the wrong place at the wrong time.

The initial maneuvers from 2001 to now have set things in motion to bring the world to a climatic point. I can no longer make any predictions how it will turn out. We will survive, but at what cost is hard to determine.

On a personal note: My son graduates from the Navy RTC on Friday. So it is not like I am talking smack; MY family is on the line.

Absolutely no. Each nation with nuclear weapons have more to lose than gain from WWIII. China, England, France, India, Pakistan, USA only possible WWIII combatants. Others are not major powers. Alliances stop short of nuclear support. Only uses of nuclear weapons will start WW III.
