How about a gift card to American Outfitters, The Gap or any other clothing store he likes? Or a gift card for a place like Circuit City or Best Buy. He could get movies or some other gadget there. My kids love getting gift cards because it's like giving them a shopping trip for a gift!

Well, whether or not giving cash would be polite, all thirteen year olds would be happy to recieve cash from anybody. I'm 13, and I can tell you right now that if my aunt didn't know what to get me, I would rather she just got me cash so i could do anything I want with it. You could give him a gift card to his favorite store, too. If he has an Ipod, you should get him an Itunes gift card so he can buy songs off of Itunes. Good luck!

Get him the Guitar Hero game for Playstation or some other gift that allows him to be creative. Boys like toys, but a cool gift that helps him learn something will have lasting value.

perhaps your aunt will know what he's been asking for; ask 'er. otherwise, i'd have to go with a video game gift card, though i note your reticence toward the genre (but i don't understand it). i enjoyed book gift certificates, as a lad (they hadn't become cards, yet), but i'm bookish. i feel cash is always appropriate, but my parents always took it away from me, "to put in my college fund". what was this college fund applied to? my father's legal defense, on drug trafficking charges (among others). sooo... slip it to 'em, if you can, and get 'im an ugly returnable sweater as a fake out, for his mom (unless he's likely to be forced to wear it). you might ask HIM, too...
