Apart from the fact this is not the forum this question should've been posted in, the whole idea of fearing something/someone and loving them at the same time shows how twisted the ideology of Christianity is. Love and fear are two opposites......you can't have one with the other. Look at it this way, if you feared your own father, how could you truly love him. And if that person expected you to feel that way towards them, then there'd be something twisted about that person, for sure. Therefore, since God is a sentient entity, and can rightly be personalised....or given a personality, if God acts in that fashion or has "commanded" people to behave towards "him" in that fashion, then it's more than apparent that the God you worship is nothing more than a power tripping egomaniac. Your God is basically playing puppeteer with your being and your emotions. Makes you think when you look at it intelligently, doesn't it.
Also makes you think that "God" isn't what God says "he/she/it" is.
And so far as worshipping the Universe..... that's the same as worshipping a lump of stone. Veneration of an object. No fear or love in it save what you project upon it yourself.
.......................................................................................................
Tao Barbie......... fear, in Elisabethan English may mean what you have said there, but remember that it was translated from the Greek for fear, phobos, which literally means fear. As that was also translated from the Hebrew/Aramaic word for fear, which literally meant fear as well. So, in actual fact, the root of the word is in the literal sense fear......not respect or honour.
Aviophage...... I'll clarify that soon enough.

The Greek texts that have been accepted as part of what we call the "new testament" do not use the word "phobos," which means "fear" in the sense "horror" or "terror" at all anywhere. There are several words meaning "respect" or "reverence" in Greek that appear in some of the extra-Pauline epistles.
But there is no place in the NT in which the original sense of "the fear of God" meant "fear" as in "fear of the dark," or "fear of Osama bin Laden."
Nada.

The word "fear" in the bible is an old Elizabethean English word meaning "to respect or honor". It would be the same as respecting or honoring your parents or a king. There are many words in the bible like it , and we don't use them any more.
Other Elizabethean English words are:
Thee or thou=you
withersoever=where ever
peradventure=by chance, or "what if?"
suffer=allow or permit- as in "Suffer the little children to come unto me."
want= lack or "to do without" as in "The Lord is my shepard, I shall not want (lack anything)
There are many more. To fear God does not mean to be afraid of Him. How can you love God and be in terror at the same time? God wants us to enjoy our lives. He does not cause misery, pain, or fear.

Some people think it is IMPOSSIBLE that you love a person and at the same time you fear that person...but I guess that this is GOD so he is not a person, so it's different here. You love God so much and fear him so much too. And if you feel so, you r a gr8 person!

It is a strange dichotomy and one that I do not fully understand. It could be that the terms 'love' and 'fear' are being used in a special sense. But to love something that you fear sounds perverse.

How can you love OR fear the Universe? What are you going to do? Emigrate? Just get used to it.
As for God, well I know the Universe exists, because I can see it.

I prefer to ignore the concept of god altogether, and deal with the universe strictly on observables.
