My husband was sent to the islands (virgin) to start a job and when he got there he (along with everyone else) was handed a paper with everyones names and SSN's on it. I am shocked and furious because of this.
Is this legal? What do we do now that so manyother people now have access to my hubbys SSN?

I was in a similar situation with my husband.
You have a problem. You need to get help because it is a violation to give out someones social security #. Some one made a mistake, but this is trouble. Human Resource and such has access to this information. Since it sounds like the company has distributed the number to your husbands peers, it warrants attention and investigation. Call your Attorney General, Call your EEOC, call your social security office.
If he is in a union, the union will handle this problem for him very very well.
His credit and identity have been put at risk!!! Although, I assure you that it is highly unlikely that one of his fellow workers would try it because they'd find themselves in a heap of trouble. You may even consider a lawyer if all of the aformentioned options fail, but try those first because their investigations are of course at no cost to you. Beware, the wheels of justice will turn very slow.

Sounds shady to me, I'm pretty careful about my SSN, get your FREE yearly credit report, and check it EVERY year. Amazing what you don't know about until, you NEED a new... Call the social security administration and ask for the laws regarding this. Better yet, call you congress representative or senator. They are willing to help with this.

I would have him contact the social security office and close all your mutual accounts b/c your husband is really at high risk for fraud now.
