If you're interested in Texas Hold 'em I would suggest watching a Celebrity Poker Showdown, or the World Series of Poker on ESPN. You learn a lot about how to play the games, especially Celebrity Poker Showdown.
Another suggestion would be to buy a $10 poker computer game - it will tell you what you have in your hand, and you learn a lot by playing without actually forfeiting any money.

There are lots of variations. I'd recommend you get a beginners' book, or if you're happy to only learn texas hold-em, watch some of the tutorials on online poker sites.
