Actually triskadekaphobia is written as one word, and I suspect a lot more people have than admit to it. Many buildings avoid the "curse" of the 13th floor by going from 12 to 14. There's still a 13th floor, of course, they just don't call it that.

People are also nervous about Friday the 13th and seem to joke incessantly about it, which often indicated nervousness.

Legend has it that the unlucky aspect of 13 stems from there being 13 at the table at the Last Supper in the Christian religion. To this day,many hostesses will go far out of their way not to have thirteen at the table.

I know allot of people who don't necessarily have a fear of the number 13 but would rather not use it or have to participate in situations where the number 13 would be used. Hotel room numbers, lotto tickets, thirteenth person....I for one love the number thirteen...there was a time where every time I looked at my watch it would be: the hour and then 13. 1:13, 5:13, 6:13...my bills would be $34.13...something would always come up with the number 13...one of my greatest first dates was on a 13th!
