My 5 month old hasn't been sleeping throught the night as she has been since the age of 2 months. She has been waking at 3-4am as well as 6-7am to feed or just cry and fuss. I told the doctor but he didnt seem worried. She also becomes very irritable just prior to bed. This isn't a constant thing but it has been going on for about a week now. Any ideas ab out why she is waking up twice in the night at this age?

Sometimes, when baby is teething their sleep schedule will be off a bit.
Also, when a baby has recently reached a new milestone (for instance - just learned to roll over, or to sit up by herself, or starting crawling) they may have difficulty sleeping.

It's really a good time to let them learn to self-soothe, but it is a really hard thing for mom to do. I usually give myself a deadline. If they haven't calmed down in 5 minutes, or ten minutes, then I go and get them. Otherwise, I try to let them settle on their own. It's really hard to do that, and I'm not good at letting my little one cry it out.

Either way, it's completely normal for their sleep schedule to get wonky from time to time. Try to relax. Both of my children have been through it.

Don't worry about it. Certain times in their life at that age they have growth spurts and need the extra food, which leads to them waking up in the middle of the night. You're lucky though. My daughter is 3 years old and when she was little she never slept thought the night. Only once in a blue moon. For me it was because I didn't have her on a schedule. Anyways don't worry about it, if the doctor is not worried you shouldn't be.

Is she teething? My guy would sleep through the night right up until he started teething badly, then he woke up a couple times throughout the night. Then there was one night where it felt like he was newborn since he was up every 2 hrs and the next couple days his teeth came out.
Maybe she's going through a growth spurt and needs more food?
Maybe she's too hot??
There may be several reasons to her restlessness, but Im sure its nothing serious :)
Good luck

The best solution would be to feed her just before sleep. Make sure her tummy is absolutely full.
Also try to give her a massage/bath just before bedtime. This will relax her and she'll sleep better.
Plus make sure your baby dosen't get a dry throat. Place a humidifier near her crib @ night.
My son went through the same phase for a while. The massage and bedtime feeding really helped.

Maybe a growth spurt, but it could be other reasons too, teething, earaches, stomach aches. Our baby doesn't sleep through the night and shes 15 months old. But also are you nursing or bottlefeeding, if you are nursing then maybe she is not getting enough anymore. It could be plenty of things, you'll have to try different things,to find out why she is up.
