I am going to London in May for my honeymoon. What are some fun things to do there? Great places to eat? Somewhere nice and clean but not too expensive to stay... I have never been one on travel books. They only give the writers opinion and they never give you a real feel for a place.

Websites are welcome!!!

With a city like London which has so many things to do and so many different areas, I would definitely get a travel book. Even if you don't listen to the opinions, you should at least get it for the information.

You're probably aware that London has a lot of Indian food and one of the best places to find it is Brick Lane (go to Aldgate East tube station). There are tonnes of restaurants so just walk down the street and pick the one you like the look. Some other favourites restaurants are:

* Floridita (www.floriditalondon.com)
* 2nd floor dining room at Smiths (www.smithsofsmithfield.co.uk/diningroom.htm)
* Belgo Centraal (for some great Belgium beer and 'moules and frites', www.belgo-restaurants.com)
* Strada if you want some decent reasonably priced pizza and pasta (www.strada.co.uk).

While you're here, you have to see all the main attractions (eg Tower of London, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park, shopping on Oxford and Regent Streets, Tower Bridge, National Gallery etc) but some other thoughts are:

* strolling along the South Bank of the Thames (I like to walk from the National Theatre to Tower Bridge, near Tower Bridge they often have great outdoor photo exhibitions)
* rowing a boat in Hyde Park
* grabbing a bite to eat at the Borough Markets (which is a farmers market)

There are also tonnes of day trips you can do by train or if you want to hire a car. See my answer to this question for some of my favourite day trips: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apf6ywWFstpmnutZzKxGkbHsy6IX?qid=20060818041655AAms8WG

It's been many years since I went to London, but some of the things we enjoyed doing were: watching the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace; the Courtald Insititute Museum (a little one); British Musuem; Tower of London; walk around the Trafalgar Square area; go to the parks: Regent's is one (can't remember the others, but there are many picturesque ones); Hampstead neighborhood; the Portobello Road street market. Harrod's Dept. Store is interesting and also Marks and Spencer.

Can't recommend a hotel because we stayed w/friends. But be sure to stay on a lower floor if it's an older one (for better escape if there's a fire). Lots of great little places to eat, all sort of ethnic restaurants.

London is a charming city. The theater there is also great.

I would suggest staying at a place in one of the home counties. Im from Berkshire, Eng and i would recommend places such as Windsor and Ascot. Try a search for Places to stay in Windsor 'or' Ascot.
