Let me guess... You have vinyl, or PVC gutters from a home center. They really do fit together, it's just a pain in the a&&! I installed two sections on my fathers shop. That was 15 years ago, and they're still in perfect condition. They were so difficult to install I swore I would never use them again, and I have'nt.

If using slip-joint connectors, gently pry open the flanges inside the connector and slip the gutter into the flange. Then fold the lip over the front edge of the gutter. Apply a heavy bead of sealant at joints. - See more at: http://www.proconstructionguide.com/how-to-install-gutters/
